Reflection Prompt: How has your knowledge of technology standards changed after this module? Reflect on your own use of technology standards in your classroom and personal use.
Description Our assignment was to read the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.
Impact I have been introduced to these standards in a past class so they were not new to me. However they did act as a reminder of how little I do in my classroom to meet the technology standards. I think I became complacent since I, even with my limited use of technology, use more technology than the other secondary teachers in my school. I feel overwhelmed being a new teacher just trying to keep up with the everyday requirements let alone being a leader in incorporating the technology standards. The review of these standards have reminded me that I must make the effort to incorporate more than just the basics in order to benefit my students.
Intent I plan on posting these standards by my work stations so that I can have a visual reminder of them as I plan my lessons. In addition I will try to identify specific examples of lessons or activities I have planned which teach the standards, so that I may have my own scenarios to refer to when planning instruction. In addition it would better equip me to approach of IT department about necessary technology access, such as internet sites, if I can back up my request with instructional examples related to the standards.
Note: since this module I have approached IT about downloading GoogleEarth for various Science lessons - if I can get that in for us then I can also introduce it to our Geography/history teachers for use in their lessons.
*** Hi Charlotte, I think that being the top dog sometimes does make us complacent, but your intent is right on target. Backing up requests to IT with instructional examples aligned to standards is hard to argue with! Your wiki looks awesome! Dr. Ward
